Billing for Flu Test

I have a question regarding billing for Abbott ID Now Flu test. Are we supposed to bill 87502 just one time or 87502 X2 as we are testing for Flu A and B .
Thank You, Raman

Once, since it’s one test.

Only Qty 1.

I don’t know about the Abbot test but the older Binex test is billed twice , we have done it that way for years and gotten paid , even by Medicaid.

From the CMS web site:
87502
Infectious agent detection by nucleic acid (DNA or RNA); influenza virus, for multiple types or subtypes, includes multiplex reverse transcription, when performed, and multiplex amplified probe
technique, first 2 types or sub-types
(Influenza/RSV)
87503
Infectious agent detection by nucleic acid (DNA or RNA); influenza virus, for multiple types or subtypes, includes multiplex reverse transcription, when performed, and multiplex amplified probe
technique, each additional influenza virus type or sub-type beyond 2 (List separately in addition to
code for primary procedure)
(Influenza/RSV)
If you go by this and are running just flu A & B, it seems 1 unit is appropriate
